The land of green ghosts

CSC_0289, originally uploaded by Abducted by pirates.

Many years back, i bought a book from Kinokuniya. The land of green ghosts, A Burmese Odyssey by Pascal Khoo Thwe. I've got no idea what got me interested in the book then. But after reading, i knew i'll be there one day to see them in person. Everyone is discouraging, telling me its difficult to get there and all. It did took me quite a few years to gather my courage and all but finally. ;)

Loy Krathong in Chiangmai is full of colorful paper lanterns, fireworks, beautiful girls in traditional clothings, parade floats and lots of street food.

The clear november sky was lit up by khom lois and the river glow with candlelights from lots of banana leaf boats. It is said that you put all your troubles into the boat and float it down the river or launch them up into the sky using paper lanterns. To cleanse your sins and carry away your sufferings.

I launch one of them with the help from bystanders. It rise into the dark sky driven by heat, the fire visible like an orange star, into the far distance bringing away by troubles.

Tout le monde by Carla Bruni

It has been a very long time since i last heard this. Its still the same. Her husky voice. The alluring tune. Still as captivating as the first time i heard. Just like Cleopatra is to Anthony.

There was a boy by the name of Santiago. He was a shepherd who sold his flock and travel distances in order to follow his dreams. He had not a cent in his pocket, but he had faith. One day he came across a crystal merchant, a devoted muslim whos obligation would be pilgrimage to the holy sites in the city of Mecca. When he was young he worked hard selling crystals and thought that someday he will be rich enough to visit Mecca. When he is finally rich enough to do so, he remains at the crystal shop looking at other pilgrims heading towards Mecca. The boy didn't understand why the merchant no longer want to go to Mecca now.

"Because it's the thought of Mecca that keeps me alive. That's what helps me face these days that are all the same, these mute crystals on the shelves, and lunch and dinner at that same horrible cafe. I'm afraid that if my dreams is realized, I'll have no reason to go on living."
"I just want to dream about Mecca. I've already imagined a thousand times crossing the desert, arriving at the Plaza of the Sacred Stone, the seven times I walk around it before allowing myself to touch it. I've imagined the people who would be at my side, and those in front of me, and the conversations and prayers we would share. But I'm afraid that it would all be a disappointment, so i prefer just to dream about it."
-The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

The merchant felt that having a dream was more important than fulfilling it, while Santiago was trying to fulfill his.

I am feeling somewhat like the merchant.

Some random thoughts..

1. The wind is always against me when im skating (Sometimes regardless of the direction im heading). And i start to wonder if im really lightweight or i have a really huge surface area.

2. If i drive a cab one day i will never drive one of the super old yellow top cabs. People get really disappointed that the next cab in line isnt the brand new Hyundai Sonata but a smelly-lookin cab (At least i do.).

3. When i see someone wearin crocs i knew in that instant that we seriously have nothing in common (I dont care if they are waterproof or not).

4. I think im a geek. I download my media, music, books and games online and i buy my clothes, bags, accessories, books, electronics and even food off the web. Oh my and books appeared twice. Or maybe i should say im a geek chic (Sounds more like im making a fashion statement here. But again it still sounds kinda derogative.).

5. I could never understand why is 3 pieces of stones stacked on top of each other considered zen. They might as well use a creative mp3 player instead.

Whatever.

I happened so quickly.

Within a split second i am reduced from such an intricate machine, to a conventional notebook of paper. How depressing. It felt like as if im a millionare who had just filed for bankruptcy or my home was burned down. Seriously, its that drastic. Now i start to understand the importancy of backup. I could never understand why will people buy software to remind you to backup, make a schedule to back up and as a matter of fact backup your entire hdd to ANOTHER hdd. Freakkks. But yup now everything is gone.

Anyway, the occasion epicure is takin over me again. (Though Epicurus was not exactly my favourite philosopher but not that i know of many more anyway). Im havin this terrible cravin for a lemon meringue pie these days but i couldnt seem to find anywhere sellin. But for the time being, any french pastry will do. Or to eat at some branded lookin patisserie that look more like they are sellin some handbags instead of real food. Having some macaroons from Pierre herme will be nice. Or some dessert startin with creme d'something or ganache au chocolat something or endin with blanc or a la vanille.

Im hungry.

The weather was too hot in Guangzhou and too rainy in Hongkong. But overall it was still quite a nice trip, although its always better if you were there with friends instead where you can skip some boring stuff and go straight to the interestin parts. But again, its a different kind of experience. Here are some photos taken.

Next, waste the tea by rinsing the cups, teapot and everything with the tea. Finally, serve them in ridiculously small cups that you will need a thousand of them to quench your thirst. In fact im yearning for a can of coke as i took the photo.

Hahaa myths and fables.

Wahahahahaa rest in peace, clippy! From 1997 to 2007. Clippy, the most annoyin thing on Office is gone for good. Its always appearin and askin whether you need assistance or sometimes completely useless stuff like how it like to appear for no apparent reason. Not just the ugly paperclip on a piece of notebook, theres still the wizard merlin and the dog and the cat and the office logo. Byee =D

1 月14 日 雨の日

Today is yet another beautiful sunday. I just like the feelin of not settin an alarm to wake me up by a certain time. It feels unrestricted, givin my body clock carte blanche to wake myself as it pleases. Rainy days are good as long as you didnt have to go outside. Theres nothin i have to complete, theres no where that i have to go. If only everyday could be like this..

Monday, January 01, 2007

Its a new year again. Im no longer excited, i had like 21 new years already. I had a fruitful year workin my ass off but spendin them as fast as i earn as well. I had my twenty first birthday this year, steppin into adulthood that is, im able to watch artistic movies, get married without parent consent, pay by installment and have my phone bill billed directly to myself. I had started to have a stable income and at the same time also develop a not as stable spendin need of buyin myself stuff that i need but can live without. And now its the time where people make New Year's resolutions that wont keep and make predictions that wont happen.

New year resolution 2007

1. Enjoy life.
2. Be more efficient. Do less work but accomplish more.
3. Be healthy. Try to exercise regularly.
4. Spend wisely. Do NOT buy unnecessarily.
5. Be puncture. Wake up slightly earlier each day.

As for my new year prediction, i suppose this is another year that i will forget bout' this entire New year resolution by the 2nd week of January and even if i do remember i will always refer back to resolution no.1 and do anythin as i like. This is a waste of time. Happy new year!

Merry Christmas! This is the time where there is too many people everywhere, too many gifts that you will never think of buyin for yourself or might not even use in the future and is too rainy to do anythin else other than to hog up the passageway of the shoppin malls. This is Christmas. Have a blessed Christmas =D

Friday, December 22, 2006

Today is the celebration for winter solstice or simply the glutinous rice ball festival. Luckily i had never fancy those, i cant imagine havin some starchy goo stuck onto my stitches. Finally i feel like i kinda got used to my new bummer lifestyle but it has already came to an end. Anyway this is the most idle and ineffective 5days of the entire year. But come to think of it i work a total of 15days this month and still get the same amount of pay. How much slacker can i get. Yawnz. I should go back to sleep, im on mc.

Wednesday, December 20, 2006

Hmmm i am bored. There nothing interestin in my life. I did not go for a vacation to anywhere exotic, i did not take up a interestin course like capoeira. Neither did i met a sexy mexican salsa instructor nor did i take up a new hobby. I didnt even do any work. Perhaps i really got a 勞碌命, im about to be bored to death stayin at home at this rate. I feel like i'm drenched in the river of styx upon the city of dis. Its sick to have sharp stuff pokin around your mouth and i thought the drillin is bad enough. But havin a scalpel cuttin into your gums is worst. It like watchin Saw but suddenly you realise you are part of the show. Anyway i hate goin to the dentist even for routine checkup.

Something to be proud of, today is the 1st MC i took for the entire year and i got 6days in a row. Anyway i thought i would be spendin my MCs on something more comfortable like a mild headache or a slight fever. But what to do. I think this is the 2nd most painful thing that happened to me. The 1st one was stitchin my finger without LA. But that was momentary but this is constant unbearable pain. The 2 most terrible pain to me must be stomache and toothache. Its not killin you but tormentin you all the while. Well maybe child bearin but i got no idea, its like extreme constipation but comin out from the wrong hole.

It always happened to rain when im not workin. I do like the rain but i miss the sun at the same time. And one thing everyone will hate in life is that you have all you need with you and you wish to do something but you cant. Its like a salesman workin in Aussino sellin mattress but is feelin super tired but cant sleep or a super hungry waiter workin in a restaurant serving food. If im workin these few days i will definitely feel so sleepy because of the weather but ironically im feelin awake and energetic doin nothin at home. Its a terrible waste of natural resources, that is all the rain that is fallin and all the wind that is blowin. I shall try to sleep.
